Fishy Feast
A downloadable game for Windows
In Fishy Feast you play as a sea monster and swim through dynamic underwater environments filled with a variety of fish. Eat as many fish as you can to advance through the levels. However, the ocean is also filled with other predators, forcing you to stay alert and use your environment to fight or flee. With each level, the challenges grow tougher as players progress through different ocean biomes and face massive boss predators. The game blends strategy, quick reflexes, and progression to keep players hooked in an ever-evolving underwater ecosystem.

What is Fishy Feast?
The concept of Fishy Feast is derived from the classic fishing game genre, which has long been loved for its simplicity and charm. Our team chose this genre as a platform to expand its boundaries and introduce new, vibrant elements. In this reimagined version, Fishy Feast enhances the experience with improved effects, dynamic gameplay, and exciting new features, bringing players a more engaging and immersive adventure.
So what went well?
- Unique environments: Each environment is uniquely designed, with no overlapping enemies, ensuring players stay focused and never get bored.
- Smooth character design: Character design and customization exceed our expectations, creating smooth and visually appealing characters.
- Better-than-expected animations: While none of us are professional artists, the sprite animations turned out much better than expected.
- Overcoming the enemy challenge: Designing enemy behavior was our biggest challenge, as each environment required a unique approach. However, we successfully solved this hurdle, creating engaging and varied enemies.
- Thoughtful environment design: The environment plays a major role in the game's setup. With four distinct environments, we carefully selected and arranged the character applications to fit each setting.
- Balanced gameplay: The gameplay is smooth and intuitive, striking the right balance between being easy to follow and challenging enough to keep players engaged.
Where did it go wrong?
- Removed the concept of multiple levels: We originally planned multiple levels, but the high level of repetition and the risk of boring players made us abandon the idea.
- Overlapping prey and environments: There is significant overlap between prey and environments, as the player's actions do not change much from level to level, reducing the variety of gameplay.
- Unrealized unique abilities: We wanted to make each prey and enemy unique with special abilities, but this ambitious goal proved too difficult to achieve in this iteration.
- Reduced number of levels: Our original plan included 10 levels to showcase each type of prey and their role in various environments. However, due to overlapping content and resource constraints, we had to narrow it down to 4 levels.
What did we learn?
- Art and Animation Skills Development: Since none of us are professional artists, we had to learn how to draw and animate our characters from scratch. This was a valuable skill that we developed along the way and we are proud of it.
- The Importance of Communication and Productivity: Strong communication and consistent productivity were essential to the success of this project. By maintaining clear and open communication, we avoided many potential roadblocks and hiccups, ensuring a smoother development process.
- Improved Programming Skills: During the programming process, our team further improved their programming skills. The codes were written in a more structured and clear manner. This combined with the knowledge we gained from the class as a foundation.
